Joanne Thorndike – Financial Advisor
Joanne began her career in public finance working at First National Bank of Boston as a municipal credit analyst on behalf of the bank’s municipal trading and underwriting functions in the capital markets division. From there she moved to the municipal finance department of Shawmut Bank where she worked as a financial advisor to New England cities, towns and states for general obligation bond and note issuances. During her tenure there she worked on a wide range of credits from the highest quality to below investment grade borrowers. Her duties also included managing a staff of three professionals.
Joanne was a founding Partner of Burke, Perry & Thorndike, a boutique municipal advisory firm, specializing in providing advisory services to non profit institutions in New England. In her most recent position as a Managing Director at BLX Group she continued to provide advisory services to the non profit sector nationally, with clients including independent schools, higher education, a research institute, health and human service organizations and an independent law school. At BLX she was recognized as a municipal credit resource firm wide.
Joanne graduated from Colby College, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Economics and was the research assistant to the department chair for two years. She returned to school to complete an MBA at the FW Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Joanne lives in a suburb of Boston. Having successfully navigated the raising of three children, she is retired from her soccer mom duties and local town positions. She is currently on the Board of Visitors of McLean Hospital and is involved in fundraising for Riverside Community Cares. In her free time she enjoys running and gym workouts, having completed six marathons, and spends as much time with her three children as they will allow.
